The Flowering Desert - Burkina Faso

Mar 2008 Many African refugees refused entry into Europe are environmental migrants, forced from their once fertile homes by spreading deserts. A Swiss aid agency has launched a new initiative to stem the sands. *By fencing land into manageable portions to protect it from marauding herdsmen and animals, villagers hope that trees and bushes will grow back of their own accord. Remarkably, the plan is working. One year on, the land is green again. The villagers are thrilled with their success, "we are doing this for ourselves, but even more for our children. It is the future of us all.

Burkina Faso - African Film Festival at Ouagadougou
Author: Admin01 9th, 2009

February 1995 A million people attended the 25th Pan-African Film Festival (FESPACO) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. It is Africa's most important cultural event, second only to the annual soccer championships. Winnie Mandela and other leading African lights are expected to attend. South Africa takes part officially for the first time. Watch a film in an African city and the chances are it will be open-air with giant insects swooping overhead and an enthusiastic audience shouting encouragement at the screen. In a continent with an illiterate majority and few televisions, the importance of cinema cannot be ignored. It has become a source of great national pride, and for many it is helping to re-establish a post-colonial cultural identity. 1995 is the international centenary of cinema, and in commemoration FESPACO is opening the first ever African film archive.

Burkina Faso Commitment

http://www.flagup-mailin.com/burkina.html Burkina Faso, Africa I recently traveled to Burkina Faso, Africa where 85% of the country does not have access to clean water sources. After seeing firsthand the dire conditions the people of Burkina Faso live in, we at FLAG UP-MAIL IN have made a commitment to build over 1000 fresh water wells throughout Burkina Faso. The United Nations ranks Burkina Faso as the third poorest country in the world. The population of Burkina Faso is approximately 14.8 million people, the average income is only about $400 per year. The average life expectancy of men is 51 years and women 54 years. One out of three children will probably die before they ever reach the age of ten. The deaths are mostly due to a lack of fresh water. This short life span and the deaths of children is due mostly to a lack of fresh water. The women of Burkina Faso often walk several miles to a dirty stream or stagnant pool, just to fill a bowl with water. We must act quickly and bring clean water to these people. To help in the mission of building over 1000 wells, FLAG UP-MAIL IN LLC is committing at least $5.00 from each flag purchased from this website to go to build water wells in Burkina Faso. You can make a difference in the lives of the people of Burkina Faso. Thank you for your support. Sincerely, Mike Pierce President

! NB: slideshow (audio + snapshots) ! FOR FANS ONLY - SOLO PER VERI "HARDCORE FANATICS" DEL BINOMIO ELIO-ZAPPA :=) Paolo Gallori intervista Elio e Faso (ovviamente, di Elio e le Storie Tese) nel 2003, in occasione delle celebrazioni del decennale della morte di Frank Zappa. Intervista reperibile sul sito KataWeb Musica. Registrato (come sempre) in maniera davvero ultra-cheap. Enjoy :=)

http://www.unicef.it - Parla Jean Martin Kiemde, 13 anni: "Mi chiamo Jean Martin Kiemde. Ho 13 anni e vivo in Burkina Faso. Ho perso mio padre quando avevo 12 anni. È morto di AIDS. Faccio parte di un gruppo che lotta contro la diffusione dell'AIDS. Nel mio gruppo, insegno ai giovani come evitare il contagio dell'HIV/AIDS, e come proteggersi così da non dover mai soffrire per la malattia. Come puoi prendere l'AIDS?
