All rights reserved. Unauthorized reproduction is a violation of applicable laws. Poison is an American rock band which originally achieved popular success in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band has sold over 25 million records to date worldwide. Formed by a group of aspiring rock musicians from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Poison moved to Los Angeles, California in search of fame. The band's roots, and those of glam metal in general, lay in America's east, and in particular, the sounds and images associated with the New York Dolls, KISS, Boston, Aerosmith, and Cheap Trick. These influences were transplanted to California in the late 1970s, mutated following the release of Van Halen's debut in 1978, and ultimately ignited into a colourful music scene on L.A.'s Sunset Strip in the 1980s. The band's later work would also exhibit a Southern rock and blues influence. Poison's music is characterised by straightforward melodies and catchy guitar riffs. The band's tunes are often not remembered as well as their garish costumes, overblown hair, feminizing make-up, and frenetic stageshow, all delivered via the metal-heavy MTV of the mid to late 1980s. To many, Poison was the epitome of the Sunset Strip glam metal scene. For their fans, this meant a straightforward celebration of hedonism; for their critics, it meant music which was uninspired and unimportant. Poison began life in 1984 under the name Paris and consisted of vocalist Bret Michaels, bassist Bobby Dall, guitarist Matt Smith and drummer Rikki Rockett. Moving to Los Angeles in 1985, they started playing the club circuit. The name Poison was picked by the band after a T-shirt worn by drummer Mick Shrimpton in This is Spinal Tap, as the band knew that they fit the stereotypes of rock stars in the movie. Smith, who was about to father a child and was concerned about the band's future, returned to Pennsylvania. The band began auditioning replacement guitarists when Smith left the group. After narrowing down the candidates to three - Slash, who would later join Guns N' Roses, Steve Silva from The Joe Perry Project, and C.C. DeVille - the band eventually agreed that DeVille's "fire" made him the best choice. Poison's second album, Open Up And Say...Ahh!, which was released on May 21, 1988 (see 1988 in music) would ultimately go on to sell 8 million copies worldwide. The record included the band's biggest hit, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," along with other top 10 hits, "Nothin' But A Good Time", "Fallen Angel" and the Loggins and Messina cover "Your Mama Don't Dance." The album had created a controversy with its initial cover, a depiction of a female demonic figure with an apparently obscenely long tongue (depicted at bottom of page). A censored version of the cover followed, focusing on the figure's eyes. lyrics: Now Listen Not a dime, I can't pay my rent I can barely make it through the week Saturday night I'd like to make my girl But right now I can't make ends meet I'm always workin' slavin' every day Gotta get away from that same old same old I need a chance just to get away If you could hear me think this is what I'd say Chorus: Don't need nothin' but a good time How can I resist Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time And it don't get better than this They say I spend my money on women and wine But I couldn't tell you where I spent last night I'm really sorry about the shape I'm in I just like my fun every now and then I'm always workin' slavin' every day Gotta get away from that same old same old I need a chance just to get away If you could hear me think this is what I'd say Chorus Don't need nothin' but a good time How can I resist Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time And it don't get better than this You see I raise a toast to all of us Who are breakin' our backs every day If wantin' the good life is such a crime Lord, then put me away Here's to ya Solo Chorus (2x's) Don't need nothin' but a good time How can I resist Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time And it don't get better than this Don't need nothin' but a good time How can I resist Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time And it don't get better than this

R.E.M.-The One I Love
Author: Admin01 8th, 2009

.E.M. is an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in early 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and vocalist Michael Stipe. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Throughout the 1980s, the band released an album per year for seven consecutive years, from their debut EP in 1982 (Chronic Town) through 1988's Green. They also toured constantly, playing a variety of venues, from theaters to backwoods dives. Along the way, their sound influenced many bands, from jangle pop groups of the mid-'80s to alternative rock bands of the '90s. The band became admired for its slow, steady rise to stardom. R.E.M. found itself established as a key element of the burgeoning alternative rock scene of the 1980s. Upon attaining major-label success at dawn of the '90s, the band was able to put forth broader political and environmental concerns while playing large arenas worldwide, and retaining most of its artistic credibility. In 1997, Bill Berry amicably left the band, leaving the band as a three-piece. Through some reinvention R.E.M. continued their career into the next decade with mixed critical and commercial success. The band expects to release a new album with producer.
